Why choose Mr Harrison

Mr Harrison undertook advanced fellowship training at two internationally renowned thoracic centres. At Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, USA, he completed an Advanced Fellowship in Thoracic Surgical Oncology, gaining extensive experience in complex lung and chest cancer surgery and the management of challenging thoracic conditions. He subsequently undertook advanced fellowship training in robotic thoracic surgery at Guy’s Hospital, London, one of the UK’s highest-volume thoracic surgery centres.
Mr Harrison developed his expertise in robotic and minimally invasive thoracic surgery through dedicated fellowships at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, USA, working alongside internationally recognised pioneers of these techniques, and at Guy’s Hospital, London, one of the UK’s leading high-volume robotic thoracic surgery centres. He uses these advanced techniques to perform many lung and chest operations through small incisions, helping to reduce the impact of surgery, shorten hospital stay and support a faster recovery.
From your first consultation through to your final follow-up, Mr Harrison remains personally involved in every stage of your care. He takes the time to understand what matters to you, explain your options clearly and develop a treatment plan based on the latest evidence and your individual circumstances. Where investigations or other specialists are needed, your care is coordinated on your behalf, providing continuity and one clear point of contact throughout.
Mr Harrison is a Consultant Thoracic Surgeon at University Hospital Southampton, a major high-volume tertiary centre for thoracic surgery serving patients across the South of England. He welcomes patients from across the South Coast, London and throughout the UK, providing access to specialist thoracic expertise without the need to travel to central London. Excellent road, rail and air connections make accessing care straightforward, while allowing many patients to have their treatment and follow-up closer to home.

Advanced robotic and minimally invasive techniques, tailored to your individual needs.
Advances in thoracic surgery mean most operations can now be performed through small incisions using robotic or minimally invasive (VATS) techniques. Evidence suggests these approaches reduce discomfort, shorten recovery and help you return to everyday life sooner.
Most procedures can be performed through one or more keyhole incisions rather than a traditional thoracotomy, helping to minimise surgical trauma.
Minimally invasive techniques may reduce postoperative discomfort and support a faster, more comfortable recovery with an earlier return to normal activities.
Most patients are able to return home within one to three days following routine minimally invasive lung and chest surgery.
The most appropriate surgical approach is chosen for every patient, based on the latest evidence and your individual condition.
Your patient journey
From your first consultation through to your final follow-up, I oversee every stage of your care to ensure prompt assessment, clear communication and a personalised treatment plan tailored to your individual needs. Where other specialists are involved, I coordinate your care to provide a seamless, consultant-led pathway, so you always know who is guiding your treatment.
Your symptoms, medical history and scans are carefully reviewed to understand your condition and answer any questions you may have.
Additional tests or imaging are arranged only where needed, ensuring the correct diagnosis and the most appropriate treatment plan.
Every patient receives clear explanations and an individual plan, with decisions made together based on the latest evidence and your personal wishes.
Where surgery is recommended, advanced robotic or minimally invasive techniques are used whenever possible to support the best possible outcome.
Comprehensive follow-up care supports your recovery, monitors your progress and ensures you continue to receive expert advice after treatment.
